Authority data within the COBISS system: our present and future
With the implementation of the IFLA Library Reference Model, the significance of authority control is increasingly more important, since the authority data will play a key role in the network of connected data. So preparing authority data will be helpful in implementing the IFLA LRM model and beneficial in the transition to RDA (Resource Description and Access).
The presentation will give an overview of the current state of authority data in the COBISS system and indicate an option for future development of authority records. We will show the state in the authority database CONOR.SI, authority databases in the COBISS.net system, sending Slovene authority records to VIAF, acquiring and using identifiers for personal names and corporate body names, General List of Subject Headings COBISS (SGC) and a draft of authority database for works.
Selecting as many entities as possible, which are realized in authority records, and establishing relationships between them is the basis for preparing a new COBISS catalogue.
