Improving the quality of the COBISS.MK system and bringing it closer to the end-users
The Macedonian National COBISS Centre (VBM Centar) carries out some projects to improve the shared cataloguing quality and the use of databases and searching for relevant information in the COBISS.MK system. The centre has increased the activities for the establishment of the initial authority database CONOR.MK for personal names and corporate body names, which had already started a few years earlier. Preliminary activities for forming a Macedonian list of subject terms are underway. The thesaurus will also be implemented in the COBISS system. They also started the project of translating COBISS manuals into Macedonian starting with the most frequently used software modules (Holdings, Cataloguing, Loan). This will particularly help the younger generation of librarians with their work in the COBISS system and provide better understanding of the system’s operation. They are trying to motivate the libraries within the COBISS.MK system that have not implemented the COBISS/Loan software module yet to do so in order to provide their users with the options and features offered by this application. They believe that through these projects they will fulfil their set goals.
