The role of the National COBISS Centre of Montenegro in the development of the library information system in Montenegrin libraries
The introduction of the presentation emphasises the legal obligations of the National Library of Montenegro to connect libraries within the library information system of Montenegro and include them in international information systems, develop the professional basis for a union catalogue, organise staff training for shared cataloguing and issues permits for working. Based on the fact that Montenegro participates in the library information system on the COBISS platform, a large number of tasks prescribed by the Librarianship Act are executed by the National COBISS Centre of Montenegro.
The paper presents the most significant areas of work of the COBISS Centre of Montenegro and the ways of cooperation with the members of the COBISS.CG system.
This is followed by the presentation of the most recent achievements and work results. Particular emphasis is placed on the implementation process of authority control in the COBISS.CG which started in 2019. At the end of 2021 and at the beginning of 2022, all active Montenegrin cataloguers successfully completed the course Migration to cataloguing with authority control. The final expected result is that in 2022 cataloguing with authority control will be used throughout the system.
Also emphasised is the training of Montenegrin course instructors for the courses Use of COBISS3 software/Migration to cataloguing with authority control, Use of COBISS3/Loan software, Use of COBISS3 software/Updating CONOR and Use of COBISS3/Cataloguing software – advanced course.
The presentation is concluded with plans and ideas for the further development of the library information system in Montenegro.
