Virtual library of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ViBBiH): challenges and achievements
The National COBISS Centre of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established in 1998. In 2005 it ceased to operate, and all its activities were taken over by the Virtual Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is based at the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Until today, 61 libraries (national, public, faculty and special libraries) joined the COBISS.BH system, and the emphasis is on increasing this number. Due to the increasing numbers of users of the COBISS system and its services, VIBBiH pays special attention to training librarians for working in the COBISS system and using its software modules.
In the past few years, the Virtual Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina organised COBISS Days three times at the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. COBISS publications (national bibliographies) are also promoted as part of COBISS Days.
Current projects include the implementation of the E-CRIS.BH system and the establishment of a uniform transliteration system for cataloguing library material in oriental languages.
