Work of CSICs for Slovenian science
Central Specialised Information Centres (CSICs) perform tasks which enable the evaluation of research performance of researchers and elections into academic titles in higher education. They guarantee the quality of bibliographic records of researchers in the COBISS.SI system used for evaluating research performance according to the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS) methodology. When optimizing the optimization of methodological bases for managing researchers’ bibliographies, they supplement the Typology of documents/works for bibliographies management in the COBISS system and Additional instructions for cataloguing bibliographic units considered for research performance evaluation. They suggest updates of Bibliographic criteria for scientific and professional performance. They prepare suggestions for updating four lists of Slovenian Research Agency, which are taken into account when categorizing scientific publications. They monitor the correct classification of bibliographic units of researchers according to the valid typology of documents/works for bibliographies management in the COBISS.SI system by checking the bibliographic records with reviewing the publication. CSIC staff changes the incorrect types of works on their own or instruct the bibliographers to make the change. If an author does not agree with changing the work type, they organize an arbitration in cooperation with science and research councils of disciplines. They inform the researchers and others about the methodology for evaluating research performance by answering questions from bibliographers, editors, and publishing houses about bibliographic records, about evaluating bibliographic indicators of research performance, and about possible ways of publishing scientific works. They determine and decide on any irregularities in publications and give expert opinions to scientific and research councils of disciplines. By monitoring and disabling subfields in bibliographic records they influence the evaluation of research performance as well as other ways of using bibliographic records in the COBISS.SI system.
