Gill Hamilton

Gill Hamilton is Associate Director of Digital at the National Library of Scotland and a member of the Library’s senior management team. She leads on digital strategy and development and her portfolio includes digital engagement, product development, library systems, technical infrastructure and support, web platforms, digital preservation and agile work practice. Gill has been an elected member of the IFLA IT Section and Europeana Members Council, and a Trustee of Wikimedia UK.

Gill is a champion for open access in libraries; she recruited Scotland’s first Wikipedian-in-Residence and Gaelic Wikipedian-in-Residence, assisted in establishing Europeana’s Licensing Framework, has supported the contribution of National Library content to WikiCommons, Europeana, Flickr Commons and the Internet Archive, and has worked with colleagues to implement open access to Library digitised resources and metadata. She co-authored the 2017 book Open licensing for cultural heritage with her colleague Fred Saunderson, and contributed to Electronic legal deposit: shaping the library collections of the future by Melissa Terras and Paul Gooding.
