Web accessibility for vulnerable user groups

Web accessibility for vulnerable user groups

Many institutions are trying to improve accessibility for vulnerable user groups. Mostly, these include improvements in physical accessibility, e.g. adapted parking spaces, adapted access to inside facilities (ramps, elevators, etc.), accessibility to restrooms, etc. Many institutions can proudly claim they made a lot of progress in this area. The situation in the field of digital or web accessibility is considerably worse. Vulnerable user groups are still having a lot of problems when accessing information in digital form. This is especially the case for users of screen readers (blind or visually impaired), who often cannot access information in the same way as other persons. According to European and Slovene legislation, all public service providers must make websites available for vulnerable user groups. Libraries offer and promote various digital services and all providers of library services must ensure that their services are accessible. These adaptations are often not only beneficial to the vulnerable user groups, but also to all users, even the ones that do not have any problems accessing the information.
