General type bibliographic databases are an agglomeration of a large number of records for works of different types of content and ways of presenting that content. Precise cataloguing rules are used to determine the authorship of these works, which makes the development of a general conversion algorithm more complicated. We have therefore decided to gain our first experience in creating authority records for works and their forms of expression by using a group of bibliographic records in COBIB describing great literary works by a single author. These works are characterised by a multitude of different editions, many transformations of their content, various reworkings and so on. On the basis of the experience we have gained, we would like to highlight some of the problems we encountered. The first is the problem of grouping bibliographic records. The second problem is that of defining the boundaries of a work and the related definition of the status of added content in literary works. This is followed by the problem of identifying the reworking of the work and its authorship. The problems identified and solved in the conversion process have not only influenced the precision of creating authority records for great literary works but have become part of the knowledge that is also applicable to work with other types of works.
