Valerija Škof is a deaf person, her mother tongue is Slovenian Sign Language (sl. slovenski znakovni jezik or SZJ). She is a journalist for Spletna TV and head of the SZJ standardization group and the SZJ etymological dictionary group. She moderates the gestures of the SZJ dictionary, leads various SZJ workshops and courses, teaches candidates in the national professional qualification program for SZJ interpreters, and is a promoter of SZJ in the public life.
