In the last twenty years, the media environment has changed fundamentally: with the appearance of many new media, even old media such as books have become significantly more accessible. In parallel with this process, Slovenia has seen the largest decline in reading literacy among the younger generation since Slovenia participated in the Pisa survey, and the Book and Readers survey also shows a decline in reading habits, which is greater than in other countries. In the lecture, we will touch on the connections between reading habits, ways of reading and critical thinking, and try to point out some of the reasons why Slovenia lags behind many European countries in this area.
