Improving Online Accessibility in Practice

23. October, 202414.15–14.30

In recent years, the concept of web accessibility has been widely recognised, providing a starting point for making websites and mobile applications accessible to all users, and in particular to people with different types of disabilities. Although countries in the European Union were required to adopt laws related to web accessibility several years ago, the actual situation still leaves something to be desired in many places. Web accessibility is often only partially addressed, and solutions are also emerging that are not fully adequate. This paper outlines the main challenges faced by those who want to improve web accessibility in practice. The process of improving web accessibility is not just about technical solutions, but about ensuring web accessibility on all levels. This paper will highlight the need to raise the level of awareness and the fact that web accessibility is a process that needs to be approached in a comprehensive way. The paper will also present the dilemmas of using web accessibility analysis tools and the problems with plug-ins.
