IFLA Conceptual Model The LRM (Library Reference Model) represents the basis for a series of changes that are taking place worldwide in the field of bibliographic data and related standards. Understanding the basic entities and relationships is therefore important not only for system developers and individuals involved in the development of standards, but increasingly also for librarians who will soon encounter these concepts and standards in their practice.
The presentation will shed light on the key ideas of the model and, in addition to the basic entities and relations, mostly already known from previous models of the FRBR family, will also highlight the concept of aggregates – phenomena that embody several separate forms of expression and embody the complexity of the bibliographic universe. Through practical examples, the importance and potential usefulness of IFLA LRM in library systems will be demonstrated.
