This roundtable is intended to present the operations of (national) consortia for access to electronic resources, which are coordinated in Slovenia by the National and University Library (NUK), the Central Technical Library of the University of Ljubljana (CTK), and the Institute of Information Science (IZUM). Participants will present the structure of the individual consortia, the range of consortium e-resources, and the benefits of membership for libraries and their users.
The discussion will shed light on current activities and the key challenges that consortia face in the context of the rapidly changing scientific communication landscape. Special emphasis will be placed on challenges related to the implementation of open science principles, such as the transition to open access, licensing terms, publication costs, the sustainability of transformative agreements, and the alignment of the interests of publishers, researchers, and libraries. Participants will also address issues of funding, content accessibility, and adapting to the needs of different types of libraries.
The concluding part of the roundtable will be devoted to looking towards the future, reflecting on strategic goals, and discussing the role of consortia in supporting open science and ensuring sustainable and fair access to research information in Slovenia.
